Using Dragon NaturallySpeaking with Microsoft Word XP (2002)

Products: Dragon NaturallySpeaking 5, 6

Problem:
When using Dragon NaturallySpeaking with Microsoft Word XP, you may receive problems with speech recognition such as Select-and-Say failing, printing words twice and poor recognition. This can be caused by Microsoft Word XP's built in speech recognition.

Solution:
Note: You must first disable Microsoft Office XP's built in speech recognition. If it is not disabled, it will continue to disable Dragon NaturallySpeaking's Word add-in "dgnword.dll".

Please follow these steps to re-enable dgnword.dll for use with Microsoft Word XP:

  1. Launch Microsoft Word XP.
  2. Click on the Help menu and choose "About Microsoft Word XP".
  3. Click the "Disabled Items" button.
  4. Check to see if dgnword.dll is in the list.
  5. If dgnword.dll is in the list, highlight it and click the "Enable" button.
  6. If dgnword.dll appears more than once, do this for every instance.
